Path Editor
Use a Path when an Object needs a repeatable route, such as a patrol between two doors. The Path stores its shape. Your Logic chooses the instance, speed, and playback behavior.
Prerequisites
Show Advanced resources in the Resource Tree, add a Path, and open it. Prepare a visible 2D Object in a Scene and attach a Logic Component for the runtime check. See movement for world units and velocity.
Draw and Edit a Route
- Click the canvas to add waypoints. Begin with two points far enough apart to see movement.
- Select a waypoint and change its coordinates in the Waypoints list. Drag a point to reposition it. Right-click a segment and choose Insert Point Here to add a bend.
- Leave Closed off for an open route. Turn on Smooth for curved segments; Smoothness controls the number of samples used to describe each segment. The exact field accepts 1 to 64 samples.
- Choose a reference from Draw over if you need to trace a Scene or Background. The reference is an authoring aid; it does not attach the Path to that resource.
- Use Test to preview traversal. For an open route, compare Stop (Once), Loop, and Ping-Pong. A closed Path always loops, so its End control is disabled.
- Save, close the editor, and reopen the Path. Check point order, coordinates, and the Closed and Smooth settings.
The shape menu includes Circle, Box, Zigzag, Arc, and Import SVG Path. Transform commands can reverse direction, flip, scale, rotate, align, or distribute the selected geometry. Save a copy before replacing a route used by several Objects.
Move a Live Instance
In the controller’s Create Event, use Change Path Movement Property to set Path, Speed (2 metres per second), and End Mode. Then add Control Path Movement with Operation set to start. Choose the target instance through Applies To. Place that Object in the Scene and run it.
Path preview settings let you inspect the resource. Check the Action fields separately; changing a preview choice does not change an existing Logic block. Use Control Path Movement with Operation set to stop when Logic needs to end traversal.
Expected result: the selected instance follows the waypoint order. An open route with stop behavior finishes at its end; restart repeats the route; reverse traverses it in the other direction. Watch the end of the route to check the selected end behavior.
Troubleshooting
If nothing moves, check the movement target, the selected resource, speed, and whether the Event ran. A Path needs at least two useful points to describe a route.
If the route appears displaced, check how the Action positions the route relative to the instance and compare the Path’s coordinates with the Scene. Changing the editor reference image does not change the instance’s Transform.
If motion jitters or takes an unexpected turn, stop other Actions that write velocity or position during the same check. Compare straight and smooth geometry, then restore collision and other gameplay controls one at a time.
The movement Action reference lists the exact Path property and playback fields.
